Service Retreat

Service Retreat is open for all undergraduate and graduate students. The Service Retreat is a combined effort of Campus Ministry and the Center for Service and Action. Open to all students, the Service Retreat provides an opportunity to gather and reflect on the essential connection between faith and justice. Through direct experience, social analysis and theological reflection this retreat becomes a profound experience of the personal and social transformation that is made possible when we engage in community service as critical thinkers living in faith and solidarity. Combining service and reflection in this way invites our students to spend a weekend as true contemplatives in action.

ABOUT THE RETREAT

This retreat will be held on Thursday, October 9th to Saturday, October 11, 2014. Please take notice that the retreat begins on Thursday at 3:45 pm, so afternoon classes may conflict.

The weekend will consist of living for a weekend on Skid Row, a well known area in Los Angeles with one of the largest homeless populations in the United States. Midnight Mission and Cardinal Manning will be providing secure sleeping arrangements for all retreat participants. The weekend will be a mix of service and conversations about issues surrounding homelessness.
