Meet the Staff
Andrea Niemi| Director of Student Leadership & Development | Andrea.Niemi@lmu.edu
Andrea is a Southern California native and has worked at LMU in Student Life for the past seventeen years. Over her 20 year career in higher education she has worked directly with leadership development, orientation, student work and volunteer service programs, student organizations, Greek life and student government. She currently provides support and manages all areas housed within SLD and directly advises GSLMU (Graduate Students of Loyola Marymount University. In addition to her role in Student Affairs, Andrea is an instructor for the School of Education teaching various leadership courses focusing on the social change model of leadership development. Andrea has her BA from California State University, Northridge and her Masters of Education from Oregon State University. She recently completed the Ignatian Colleagues Program sponsored by the Association of Jesuit Colleges & Universities in partnership with the Jesuit Conference of the United States. Andrea’s passion in leadership work is to support students as they discover their gifts and work toward the common good. In her free time, Andrea loves spending time with her family and being outdoors.

Anthony is originally from Wichita, Kansas, and has worked at LMU for the past seven years. He has a B.A. in Sociology from Loyola University New Orleans, an M.A. in Educational Psychology from Pepperdine University, an M.A. of Theological Studies from Loyola Marymount University, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education, Curriculum and Culture from Chapman University. In his current role in SLD, Anthony supports leadership development and student advocacy through working with ASLMU, Off Campus Student Life, LGBT Student Services, and the Ignatian Leadership Institute. He also supports the Division of Student Affairs through aiding in the coordination of the LMU EXP. Anthony says his favorite part of working with students is, “Being able to help support them in their own development in becoming the best versions of themselves… and learning about new catch phrases and hashtags. #squadgoals.” A fun fact about Anthony is that he pole vaulted in high school, and in 2003 held the Kansas 3A Boys Pole Vault record with a jump of 15-00.00’!

Jason is originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and has worked at LMU for the past four years. In his role in SLD, Jason is responsible for the advisement of ASLMU, as well as Athletics and special population programming. Additionally, Jason oversees and advances the effectiveness of all campus-wide programming. He is also proud to be the advisor for both the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams. Previous to his position at LMU, Jason worked as the keyboardist in an indie rock band called The Rubbish Zoo. Jason earned his B.A. in Business Administration & Honors Program with a minor in Creative Writing from the University of Wyoming, and is currently working on his Master’s of Business Administration from LMU. Jason says his favorite part about working with student is, “Seeing the stellar flashes of ‘big-picture’ potential that come when someone rises to the occasion and performs extraordinarily with the event, task, project they are working on.” In his free time, Jason owns and runs a lifestyle clothing company called Weekend Society, plays in a number of competitive, post-collegiate football and basketball leagues, writes short stories, poetry and short films, and has made it his mission in life to Never Grow Boring. A fun fact about Jason is that over fifty pieces of his writing has been published in books, journals and magazines.
Sarah Babb | Director of Off Campus Student Life | Sarah.Babb@lmu.edu
Sarah is originally from Burlington, Colorado, and has worked at LMU for the past five years. Sarah has also worked at LMU in Career Development Services and as a Resident Director of Rosecrans. In her current role in SLD, Sarah helps off campus students to be engaged community members through collaborations with the departments of Community Relations, Judicial Affairs, and Public Safety. Sarah is also the main advisor for the Student Worker Program. Sarah earned her B.A. in Organizational Communication with an emphasis in Non-Profit Management from Pepperdine, and is currently working toward her Juris Doctor at Loyola Law School. In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading, working out (yoga, walking, cycling), visiting her family in Colorado, spending time with her friends, and maybe watching some silly shows like the Today Show, Married at First Site, SVU, Scandal, Downton Abbey, Garrow’s Law, and Fixer Upper.
