Student Psychological Services
Student Psychological Services (SPS) provides confidential individual and group therapy; walk-in consultations; emergency psychological services; and psycho-educational outreach programming. SPS also offers psychological consultation to students, faculty, staff, or parents who are concerned about a student. There is no charges for our services.
We are located on the second floor of the Fritz Burns Recreation Center, on the north side, directly above the Student Health Center. Our entrance door is pictured below, on the right. An elevator is located at the rear entrance of the building, for those who wish elevator access. Interactive Campus Map
A therapist will see you without an appointment if you have a mental health emergency during regular business hours. After hours, if you have an urgent matter, please call our office (310) 338-2868 and follow the prompt to speak with a therapist.
In the event of a life threatening emergency, please call Public Safety at 222 from a campus phone or at (310) 338.2893 from any phone. You may also call 911 or the number to the left.
Events Overseas and San Bernadino
The recent tragedies overseas and San Bernadino have been a shock to all. Each individual reacts and responds to such traumatic events in different ways. Some may find the news overwhelming and difficult to handle.
If you continue to experience emotional distress related to terrorism, please reach out to SPS, the Dean of Students Office, Campus Ministry, or a licensed mental health professional.

How to Make an Appointment
To make an appointment, you may phone us at (310) 338-2868 or drop by our office on the North side of Burns Recreation Building. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your initial appointment, and arrive on time for any follow-up appointments.
Late Cancellation and Missed Appointment Policy
We have a limited number of therapy appointments available; therefore, we encourage you to keep your scheduled appointments. If you can not keep an appointment, please cancel by calling our receptionist at (310) 338-2868 at least 24 hours before the appointment (you may leave a message on our voice mail if you call after hours or on weekends). If you do not show for an appointment without cancelling in advance, or cancel with less than 24 hours notice, your student account will be charged $25.00. Specific to missed appointments, we will assume that you have discontinued treatment and we will not automatically reschedule you for another appointment. You will need to speak to your therapist directly in order to reschedule. Repeated cancellations or missed appointments may result in a loss of eligibility for our services, and referral to services outside the University.
