LMU CRIBS Contest Winners

When you move into your first college room, you are surrounded by a blank canvas waiting to be decorated. The walls are bare, the beds are stripped, and the empty space is ready for you to share pictures of friends and family, display meaningful trinkets and items, and show off your unique and creative personality. The great thing is, no two rooms will ever look the same.

Del Rey North has some of this year’s most creative rooms. Two roommates, Jo and Jill, along with floor-mate, Jordan, are the 2012-2013 LMU CRIBS contest grand prize winners and will enjoy a $200 Target shopping spree for their artistic talent!

Jo and Jill decorated their space with a coral and teal color scheme, complete with matching striped bedspreads. Photo collages and inspirational quotes cover the walls, a cozy couch sits beneath the window, and the coffee table stacked with magazines creates the perfect atmosphere for relaxation after classes. Their room shows their strong roommate and teammate relationship: “My mom took our pictures in our soccer uniforms and framed them for us!” says Jill (or Jo?).

A few doors down, the lilac curtains covering Jordan’s window compliment the neutral yet welcoming mood of her room. Books and photo frames line the tall bookshelf she brought from home, and her electric guitar with a Union Jack strap rests contently against the shelves. Above her bed hangs a canvas building plan of the Eiffel Tower. “I have pictures of my friends, family, and dogs on my cork-board and bookshelf. An animated picture frame on my desk rotates through even more pictures!  I'm also sporting some LMU pride! Go Lions!"  says Jordan.

Here is what inspired some of our contestants when they decorated their college room:
“I used a shower curtain to cover my closet, so when I move into my own place I'll already have one!”
"We have a bowl of candy to make our day a little sweeter, and fluffy pillows to for those late night pillow fights."
'We reflected our personalities and created a comfortable living space for four college sophomore girls. To us, it’s the personal touches that make our apartment so unique. From the different array of coffee table books to the quotes in frames posted on our wall, it’s the small things that make this apartment home to us. "

Contestants’ living spaces were given scores for creativity and room personality, their LMU pride, their cleanliness, and their adherence to the Student Housing Policies. The Judging panel was comprised of five staff members and two students, and contestants and the general public were able to cast their vote by “liking” their favorite room on the Student Housing Office Facebook page. All of our entries showed how a student’s imagination can transform an entire living space, and we encourage you to check out our Facebook page to see pictures of the creative and unique rooms on our campus. Congratulations to our winners!
