Loyolan and Tower Win Big

Loyola Marymount University’s Los Angeles Loyolan and Tower yearbook each won several major regional and national awards for collegiate journalism excellence in April.

The Los Angeles Loyolan, the student-run newspaper and digital news source at LMU, won four Mark of Excellence Awards for journalism excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists. The Loyolan was honored in the medium-size division (based on university enrollment) in SPJ’s Region 11, which comprises Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada.

The MOE Awards honor the best of collegiate journalism from a calendar year. Loyolan awardees were:

  • Feature Writing (Medium)

The three first-place winners from the Loyolan are now entered in the national MOE competition featuring category winners from the 12 national SPJ regions.

I look forward to seeing how the staff continues on this trajectory."
