Personal Trainers are available to Burns Recreation Center members for a minimal fee. All Personal Trainers are AFAA (Aerobic & Fitness Association of America), ACE (American Council of Exercise), NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) or NCSF (National Council on Strength & Fitness) certified.

While most trainers are current LMU students, alumni trainers are also available for those who prefer to work with non-student trainers.

Alyssa Desmond

My name is Alyssa Desmond and I am an ACE certified personal trainer. I am a senior finance major at LMU and I love fitness. My love for fitness came from being competitive in sports (soccer, cross country, hockey, and track) from a young age. Since graduating high school I have trained and competed in numerous half/full marathons, which has driven my passion for fitness. Now I want to share that passion with you! Whether you’re trying to gain muscle, burn fat or build strength, together we’ll reach your goals and have fun doing it! I will be here to motivate you during your fitness journey!

Nick Diaz

I am an AFAA certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise instructor. I am a Senior Biology major at LMU and have been active my entire life, starting with swim team and martial arts at an early age. I then began rowing in high school and continued to do so at LMU for two years. It was during these years that I developed a passion for health and fitness. I firmly believe that fitness has both physical and mental benefits; not only does it strengthen and tone your body, but also provides relief from all the tensions and stresses of day-to-day life. I have applied all of this and more in my own training and look forward to the opportunity to help you develop your own goals and passion for a healthy lifestyle. Whether it’s losing weight, gaining muscle, a little of both, or more, it’s never too late or early to start! I also teach a spin class and bootcamp/core training during the week so please feel welcome to come by, introduce yourself, and ask me any questions you may have. I am here and would love to help guide you down the path to a healthier and more active lifestyle!

A.J. Honrade

I am from Chicago (go Blackhawks!) and am a rising senior studying Health and Human Sciences here at LMU! I am a Certified Personal Trainer through ACSM. Health and fitness has always been very important in my life. Before college I dedicated myself to years of gymnastics and ballet training. I also did track & field in high school, specifically pole vault and sprinting. Since then I have loved finding a variety of ways to maintain an active lifestyle in ways such as resistance training, running, hiking, and being active outdoors especially being here in LA! Whether your goals are to improve your health or achieve a certain fitness level, I would love to help you reach your fitness goals and working with you on developing an exercise program that is challenge but fun! I am always open to meeting new people and would be happy to assist you in obtaining a healthy lifestyle!

Daniel Moghtader

I am a junior chemistry major at LMU. I received my personal training certification through AFAA. Throughout the years, I have participated in baseball, football, volleyball, and lacrosse. My involvement in these sports sparked an interest in physical fitness. I have been lifting weights for 4 years along with researching proper techniques, theories, and workout methodologies. My expertise rests in the realm of weight lifting. From increasing muscle mass, to losing fat, I will be able to offer you what I think is the most efficient route to your goal. Furthermore, I believe that pushing your limits and becoming stronger helps you become the person you want to be, not just inside the gym, but in all walks of life. If you have goals, no matter what they are, I will help you reach them.

Sean Pontikos

I am a Sophomore Film and Television Production major. Fitness may not seem part of the package of an artsy film student but I believe that fitness is more than the physique we look in the mirror or read about in magazines. I see fitness as part of a mindset that instills health and balance in our lives. I learnt this after transforming myself from a kid who had no confidence in sports, felt insecure about his body and didn’t feel like he had a balance in his life. Exercise helped me to grow and develop as a person and even helped me to get a place in the England Taekwondo team, become the captain of my high school cross country team, as well gain 20 pounds of muscle. Exercise certainly is a key part of my life and in my spare time you will see me lifting, practicing martial arts and running. I became a personal trainer to inspire people to feel confident in themselves. If you are reading this and feel that you have a goal you want to achieve, then I am here to motivate you to success. I believe that anything is possible with the right mindset and under my certification from the National Council of Strength and Fitness I feel I can provide you the best trainer to client experience, where no goal is impossible!

Jeff Palmer, Alumni Trainer

FitWell Center trainer Jeff Palmer is an AFAA CPT, NASM CPT, NASM CES and NCCPT certified personal trainer with over 10 years in the fitness industry. He has vast training experience with a multitude of clients. Jeff himself lost 127 pounds at the age of 14 and has lived a healthy life since. He enjoys all types of cardio activities, mixed martial arts, cooking, weight training and living a healthy lifestyle. His goal is to see you achieve your fitness goals.
