Katie Arce, MPH, MSN, FNP-BC, CDE
Director of Student Health Services, Family Nurse Practitioner
Katharine Arce joined the LMU Student Health Services team as the Director in 2004. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare. She holds a Masters Degree in both Nursing and Public Health and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. In addition, Ms. Arce is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health and Human Sciences, Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Her professional interests include patient education, empowerment, advocacy and preventive medicine. She is married and lives in Westchester with her husband and several adopted Weimaraners.
Daniel Hyslop, MD, MFA
Medical Director, Physician
Daniel Hyslop did his undergraduate work at University of Nebraska in Lincoln Nebraska. He attended medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and did residency training in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University. Having completed an MFA in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University in 2001, he is now writing and someday hopes to direct. He is married and has two children. He enjoys the outdoors, photography and ultimate frisbee. His devotion to LMU began in 1988 but his heart will always belong to the Cornhuskers.
Jayne Mas, NP, MSN
Assistant Director, Nurse Practitioner
Jayne Mas has been with LMU since 1997. She holds bachelors degrees in zoology and in nursing. Her graduate work was completed at the University of San Diego. She completed the California AIDS Ride and has volunteered on the medical crew. Jayne has been recognized by the campus community for her outstanding service and commitment to quality.
Cindy Nakasuji, CPNP
Cindy Nakasuji has been a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for over 10 years. She completed her undergraduate studies in animal physiology and neuroscience at UC San Diego. She received her bachelor and master degrees in nursing from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to working as a nurse practitioner, she was a RN in infectious disease. Cindy is married with two children and enjoys cooking, crafting, and spending time with family.
Deborah Velthoen, RN
Clinical Nurse Supervisor
Deborah Velthoen is the Student Health Services’ Nurse Supervisor. She has worked in Emergency Medicine for the past 12 years, dedicating her time to patient advocation and education in healthcare. Originally from the Francisco Bay Area, she currently resides in Westchester. Her love of LMU women’s soccer brought her seeking a career at LMU. She also loves spending time laughing and cooking with her family and friends.
Ivonne Pagel joined the LMU Student Health Services in 2011 as a Registered Nurse. She attended Los Angeles Harbor College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Additionally, she has a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from the Colegio Universitario De Psycopedagogia Extension Carabobo in Venezuela. Ivonne is married with two children and enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Carolyn Jackson joined the Student Health Center Team in May of 2009. Carolyn studied at Bryman College where she was trained to become a Certified Medical Assistant / Limited X-Ray Technician. Carolyn worked in the Health Center of United Airlines before transiting to LMU. Carolyn has worked as a Medical Assistant for the past 12 years. Carolyn holds an A.A in Business Management/Health Care. Carolyn is a native to Los Angeles, a mother of 6 children, and enjoys time at home with the family.
Certified Medical Assistant
Angie Flores has been a member of LMU Student Health Services since August 2017. She studied at the National Educational Center in 1992 and has a long record of working in the public sector. Angie worked as a medical assistant for the University of Arizona and cared for the Wild Cats athletes for eight years. In her spare time, Angie enjoyes traveling, singing, and dancing.
Keith Chandler, RT
Keith Chandler joined the Student Health Center staff in January 1996 after completing his studies at Saul Heiser School of Radiology at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital. He is the Radiology Technologist at Student Health Services. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History at LMU. He has a son and currently resides in Westchester.
Ira Holt received his Bachelor of Arts from Binghamton University in political science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. He has worked 35 years in health care management in the areas of financial management and ambulatory health care. He has worked as the operations manager at Student Health Services since 2010.
Administrative Assistant III
Martha Mares has been a member of the LMU Student Health Services team since 2007. She has worked in the medical field since graduating college and has extensive customer service experience. She enjoys traveling, is married, and has three sons and one grandchild.
