About Special Games

a coach and volunteer guiding a special games participant

Special Games is a student-run organization that was first established in 1977. Students plan and participate in a 2-day event to celebrate and brings together members of the Los Angeles community who face intellectual and physical challenges. The goal of this 2-day event is to foster love, create new friendships, and make life-long memories. Our participants celebrate in non-competitive fun activities.

We really hope your athlete will be able to participate in this year's games. Due to the fact that we have a limited amount of athletes we can accommodate, we highly recommend that ALL pages of the Athlete Application be completed and returned as soon as possible. In case of rain, all events will be held indoors.

This event would not be possible without community support. We welcome students and alumni to join us as coaches and booth staff to help make the fun happen! All volunteers must be 18+.

    8:00AM-2:00PM

Special Games is open to adults and children with disabilities. It is non-competitive and there is no cost for athletes. However, there are requests we must make: you will need to provide your own transportation for your athlete. Lunch is provided on Big Day. There will also be a medal and t-shirt awarded to every participant.

  • Coaches encourage and cheer on their assigned athlete while playing games, participating in activities, and while taking meal and rest breaks.

Volunteers serve wherever needed in support of the days activities. Volunteers may serve food, clean-up, set-up, and help athletes.

By signing up for Special Games, coaches/volunteers are committing to the following:

    • Attend a training workshop (these are held the week before Practice Day)
