Group Swim Lessons

Group Swim Lesson are only offered in the summer.

Group lessons provide a social environment for learning to swim. Classes are kept small to maximize student learning, with a ratio of at most 5 students to 1 instructor. Instructors are highly qualified and experienced with multiple-level instruction. LMU Campus Recreation understands that consistent instruction is beneficial to students. Group Lesson Packages ($80/session)

Group Lesson Packages are $80 per session. Sessions include six 30-minute lessons. Each session will meet twice each week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), for a total of 3 weeks.

Register for Group Swim Lessons

Burns Rec Members must call the Membership Office prior to purchasing lessons to retrieve the coupon code necessary to receive the Burns Rec Member Discount. Refunds for lessons purchased without a coupon code must be requested within 7 days of purchasing the lessons.

  2. Log into ActiveNet and register using the Group Swim Lessons Registration Directions.

Note: A processing fee will be applied to all online registration.

Policies for Group Swim Lessons

  • Registration Deadline: Registration for group swim lessons must be made by 5pm the Monday prior to the start of the next session. No exceptions!
  • A class must have a minimum of three (3) participants in order to occur; LMU Learn-to-Swim reserves the right to cancel a group lesson with too few participants.
  • At the end of the second week of each session, instructors will give parents a progress report informing them of the recommended class level for their child to take in the next session. Once given that form you must present it upon registering for the next class level.
  • Please refrain from enrolling your child in a class that is not a good fit for their skill level; it detracts from their learning as well as the learning of their classmates.

Group Class Levels

Parent and Tot

Parent and Toddler/Infant (Ages 6-36 months). Join your toddler as they experience their first swim lessons! This class requires that a parent accompany their child in the water. Songs and games will be used to create a comfortable and fun water environment. This class is a great way to meet other parents and toddlers in the area. Infants must wear a water diaper or tight fitting rubber pants over diaper.

Class Times: Monday/Wednesday: 10:15 am-10:45 am; 4 pm-4:30 pm; Tuesday/Thursday: 10:15 am-10:45 am; 4 pm-4:30 pm

Level 1: Water Exploration (Polliwog)

Ages 3 and up. This class begins your child’s own water exploration. The instructor teaches the students basic water skills and helps them become comfortable in the water. Overall, this class is a fun introductory swimming experience where students are taught kicking, floating, blowing bubbles, and gliding.

Level 2: Primary Skills (Guppy)

This class builds upon the skills taught in the Polliwog class. Instruction will continue with the skills mastered in the previous class. Students must be comfortable in the water, be able to submerge head in the water, and be comfortable with floating.

Class Times: Monday/Wednesday: 4:40 pm-5:10 pm; Tuesday/Thursday: 4:40 pm-5:10 pm

Level 3: Stroke Readiness (Minnow A)

The purpose of this class is to introduce students to the skills that will be used as they learn the swimming strokes. Topics introduced include: front crawl, side breathing, backstroke, and beginning diving skills.

Class Times: Monday/Wednesday: 4 pm-4:30 pm; Tuesday/Thursday: 4 pm-4:30 pm

Level 3B: Stroke Readiness (Minnow B)

This class is a continuation of the Minnow A class. The purpose of this class is to practice the front crawl and backstroke technique in an effort to build strength and endurance. New skills will be introduced including: standing dives, breaststroke, and treading water.

Class Times: Monday/Wednesday: 4:40 pm-5:10 pm; Tuesday/Thursday: 4:40 pm-5:10 pm

Level 4: Stroke Development (Fish)

Students in this class should be ready to swim the full length of the pool and feel confident in swimming the front crawl and backstroke Students will build their swimming skills, begin to learn butterfly, and refine breaststroke.
