Ashley Hurjak '28 is a first-year student double majoring in biochemistry and applied physics. As an aspiring biotech researcher, she is passionate about using science to make a positive impact. Hurjak authored "Triumph Over Trials," a novel that explores the confidence struggles of young adults and has published research on global sex trafficking, vaginal microbiome restoration, and the effects of tire wear particles on planaria regeneration. She co-hosts TheEdge, a podcast on the challenges of transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. Hurjak is also an intern at a venture-funded startup developing a new app and contributing to coding and marketing. Her leadership includes founding The Scholar Angels Foundation, a nonprofit supporting research funding for underserved community colleges and organizing the Cancer Crusaders Run, a fundraising event for cancer prevention. She also runs SciQuest Kids: STEM Adventure Camp, teaching science to elementary students. Hurjak has earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award twice and has been recognized by the NASA JPL International Space Academy and the Archer Rise Scholar Award. A strong advocate for gender equity in STEM, she engages in initiatives supporting this cause. Fluent in Hungarian and Spanish, Hurjak is globally driven to ethically advance biotechnology and inspire others through education and community involvement.
