3.26.26 Living the Lion's Code

March 26, 2026

Dear LMU Students,

As the spring semester draws to a close, it is important for us all to remember what it means to be a Lion and a member of the LMU community. We are people for and with others. As a community, we take care of and respect one another by listening, engaging in open and honest discourse, and doing these things even when we disagree.

Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a world filled with divisiveness and mean-spiritedness. Sadly, our community has not been immune to such divisiveness. I encourage all to remember that sharing our perspectives and opinions openly and engaging in difficult conversations is the best way to find a resolution to challenging situations. The growing trend of posting anonymous comments on social media that target others only creates further problems. This type of behavior often leads to embarrassment, pain, and fear among others, and in some instances, has made Lions feel unwelcome and alienated. Although anonymous, negative discourse on social media sites can originate from anyone, the LMU community can and should aspire to be better. While social media channels are outside of LMU’s control, I remind you that as a community we choose to live by The Lion’s Code. Let us be Lions who are:

  • Members of a community rich in mutual respect and care;
  • Different from the rest of world;
  • Inclusive and welcoming rather than exclusive and alienating.

As we begin the upcoming break, I hope each of you will take time to rest and recharge so together we can finish the spring semester strong. I know many of you may be traveling for the break, so I want to provide a few reminders to keep our community safe and healthy.

  • Stay Healthy: LMU encourages all Lions to take the following simple precautionary tips to keep the campus healthy as winter turns to spring.
  • Protect Your Residence: If you live off campus or will be traveling during the break, make sure to secure your residence and your belongings.
  • Neighborhood: If you attend events in the neighborhood, please be mindful that you’re in a family-centered, residential area. I ask that you be respectful and considerate of the neighbors and reduce your noise level, particularly during the evening and early morning hours. If you have any questions, review the L.A. noise ordinance regulations.
  • Dining on Campus: Staying on campus during the break? Make sure to view the dining hours for next week.
  • LMU Food Pantry: The food pantry is fully stocked and accessible 24-hours a day for those who are food insecure.

I wish you all a safe and healthy break! Let’s finish this semester strong, together.

Sincerely,

Terri L. Mangione, Ph.D.
