Through collaborative efforts, both internal and external, Asian Pacific Student Services (APSS) offers programming that increases awareness of traditions and contemporary issues related to Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) communities. These programs and events provide students with opportunities to grow as individuals who exhibit social responsibility and awareness, an appreciation for diverse communities, and a desire to pursue lifelong learning and development. The list below represents signature programs we host every academic year:
APSS Mixer
APSS invites the LMU community to join us for our annual mixer at the start of the academic year. With fun prizes and refreshments, the mixer brings the LMU community together to welcome its APIDA students, faculty, and staff and to help us see one another and familiarize ourselves at LMU.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Coordinated by APSS along with the APIDA registered student organizations (RSOs), this annual program celebrates the harvest festival celebrating the new moon. Celebrated among many Asian cultures, this festival celebrates three fundamental concepts: gathering (e.g., family and friends coming together or harvesting crops for festival); Thanksgiving (i.e., to give thanks for the harvest) and in harmonious union and hope.
Lunar New Year
In collaboration with the Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) and our APIDA RSOs, we celebrate the lunar new year by recognizing the diverse richness of the celebrations by various Asian cultures with food, activities, and more.
Center for Asian Business Film Screenings
A joint program with the Center for Asian Business and APIDA RSOs, we highlight films focusing on the appreciation and celebration of APIDA films and cinematography.
Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Grad Ceremony
The APIDA Grad Ceremony is an LMU tradition that celebrates and recognizes the academic and personal achievements of students who identify with the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American community. The APIDA Grad ceremony is open to all graduating LMU students (including undergraduate, graduate/doctoral candidates) completing a degree in the spring, summer, or fall term.
