Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students at Loyola Marymount University will have opportunities to grow as individuals who exhibit social responsibility and awareness, an appreciation for diverse communities, and a desire to pursue lifelong learning and development. Through collaborative efforts, both internal and external, APSS programs around the needs of our LMU students. The following lists traditional programs we host every academic year:
APSS Mixer
APSS welcomes all of LMU's community to join us for our annual mixer at the start of the academic year. With fun prizes and refreshments, the mixer helps our students, faculty, and staff to get to know one another and familiarize ourselves at LMU.
Mid-Autumn Festival
Coordinated by APSS in partnership with APIDA registered student organizations, the Mid-Autumn Festival is an annual celebration of the harvest and the full moon. Honored across many Asian cultures, the festival highlights three core traditions: gathering with family and friends, thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest, and praying for harmony, prosperity, and hope for the future.
Lunar New Year
In collaboration with the Office for International Students & Scholars (OISS) and our APIDA RSOs, we celebrate the lunar new year by recognizing the diverse richness of the celebrations by various Asian cultures with food, activities, and more.
Center for Asian Business Film Screenings
A joint program with the Center for Asian Business (CAB) and APIDA RSOs, we highlight films focusing on the appreciation and celebration of APIDA films and cinematography.
Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Grad Ceremony
The APIDA Grad Ceremony is an LMU tradition that celebrates and recognizes the academic and personal achievements of our Asian Pacific Islander Desi American students. The APIDA Grad Ceremony is open to all graduating LMU students (including undergraduate, graduate/doctoral candidates) completing a degree in the spring, summer, or fall term.
