Fabiola Bejarano ‘27
Major: Health and Human Sciences
Involvement: RA of Palm South

Junior Health and Human Sciences major, Fabiola Bejarano, stepped into the RA role in Palm North for the first time this year, which is something that made her previous struggles of finding community on campus, no longer a challenge. After spending her freshman and sophomore years living off campus she felt very disconnected and unsure of how to find her place, but she knew she wanted her junior year to look different. Being on campus and being part of a community has fulfilled exactly that.

As an RA, her favorite experience so far has been getting to know her residents in both a professional and peer-to-peer way. She admits there’s a boundary you have to hold as an RA, but anyone who meets her quickly learns she loves talking and is a great friend. From day one to now she has seen so much growth in her residents from the naivety of first entering college to seeing how “brilliant” and “amazing” they truly are, which is such a blessing for her.

When reflecting on the RA application process, she remembers it being pretty straightforward, just an application, an interview, and then the decision. Though she knows a lot of students get stuck on what to say. Advice she wants to give those who are interested in applying is to simply be honest and be yourself. She reminds future RAs that Residential Life isn’t looking for a specific template or personality type. They want authenticity, not perfection.

As a natural overthinker, Fabiola most aligns with the LMU pillar, Practice Ignatian Values. She constantly reflects on her experiences and tries to focus on the lessons that come out of them rather than the difficulties. She explains that “if you focus on the bad, then that is the energy that's going to be put out.” Therefore she likes to practice Ignatian discernment in which she aims to find the purpose of her trials because, eventually, everything has meaning.

She describes her LMU experience as “unknown yet exciting,” because every day brings something new, which is a meaningful challenge that has strengthened her resilience. Especially having to balance several jobs, school, and this position, she has learned to take on tasks day by day, leaning into strong time management. Her reflective mindset shapes how she shows up for her residents by being patient, understanding, intentional, and open-hearted. Through her authenticity, care, and willingness to grow alongside her residents, Fabiola brings the kind of warmth and perspective that makes the RA role truly meaningful.
