Faith Brooks ’28
Major: Health and Human Sciences
Involvements: RA for the Seaver Living Learning Community
Sophomore health and human Sciences major, Faith Brooks, serves as an resident advisor (RA) for the Seaver Living and Learning Community (LLC) within Palm North, a space dedicated to supporting first-year STEM majors. Applying for the position was an intimidating experience, since it was one of the first application processes she had gone through other than her college application, but she made it through and feels so rewarded.
One event she was really proud of hosting was her “Boba and Beakers” event. After hearing multiple residents express interest in joining research labs, but also admitting they were too nervous to reach out, Faith created a student panel where residents could hear directly from LMU students conducting research. Paired with a small boba bar, the event allowed her residents to learn about research opportunities, projects, application tips, and lab culture in a relaxed, peer-led setting.
The most challenging part of the RA role, she admits, is balancing unexpected duties with her academic workload and extracurricular involvement. Some nights, Faith is deep into studying or exhausted from a long week when her phone buzzes in the middle of the night with a duty call. But despite the unpredictability, she finds the role "manageable but rewarding.”
Faith loves the strong community she has formed with the Palm North and Doheny RA teams which has been a “great support system” for her. Her inspiration for becoming an RA began during her freshman year in Palm North, where she served on the RHA team and enjoyed planning events and collaborating with staff. Encouragement from her own RA pushed her to apply, and she now finds the community connections to be one of the best parts of the job.
Of LMU’s Student EXP pillars, Faith most resonates with Become a Global Citizen. Coming from a diverse, marginalized background, pursuing a minor in Asian and Pacific Studies, and founding a student organization for Indigenous students in STEM, she is passionate about cultural advocacy and learning from different perspectives. She believes that understanding cultural differences enriches the entire college experience. Through her dedication to community-building and her commitment to supporting first-year STEM students, Faith brings understanding and purpose to her role as an RA.
