Major: Computer Science with a Business Administration
Involvement: RA of Rosecrans

Junior, Computer Science major and Business Administration minor,  Laith Titouah ‘26, has given back to his LMU community this year by stepping into an RA position in the Rosecrans residence hall. From Escondido, San Diego, he sought out LMU because of its smaller campus environment, the familiarity he had with the campus as a legacy, and most importantly, LMU’s strong sense of community, in which he aims to provide for the students living in his building.

Laith was inspired to become an RA by the impact his freshman year RAs had on him. He credits them for being involved in his daily life and helping him whenever he needed resources or simply wanted to have a conversation. He explained that he “wanted to bring that back for other students.” To create that same supportive environment, he schedules his office hours during the busiest times, makes himself visible and approachable, and encourages his residents to drop by his office hours with any questions they may have.

One of his favorite ways to build an inclusive and strong community is by organizing intramural sport teams that freshmen join. Another thing he loves is when students spontaneously gather in the hallway to talk, especially when it becomes a “big group conversation.”

He described the application process for him as “pretty smooth,” explaining that it required a mix of preperation, skill, and confidence. Advice he offers to students who are interested in applying is to truly reflect and gain understanding on what the role entails. Be confident in your answers and explain how you would “deal with conflict management and emphasize how you can build a good community.”

The toughest part of being an RA, Laith admits, is having to enforce policy when it's someone he's grown close to. "It's tough when you have to report something for residents you're friends with," he said. "But when you have a good relationship, they know you're looking out for them." He has learned that residents are far more cooperative when they feel known and respected.

Reflecting on his LMU experience overall, Laith points to the strong academics, small class sizes and accessibility of resources as major factors in having choosing LMU be “one of the best decisions” he has made." He appreciates the small class sizes that allow him to know his professors well and explains how it makes it more engaging.

When asked which of LMU’s Student EXP pillars resonates most with him, Laith points out that here at LMU, Integrate Mind, Body, and Spirit and Become a Global Citizen goes hand in hand. Through LMU’s core curriculum, especially courses on religion, culture, and critical thinking, he feels his worldview has expanded significantly. He explains that being able to understand different religions and perspectives helps you become more empathetic which is “one of the most important things you can do in college.” Through his leadership, empathy, and dedication to his residents, Laith not only builds the kind of community that once supported him, but fully embodies the Student EXP pillars he resonates with.
