Clinical Interests and Specialty Areas

Bowen Shaner believes that within everyone exists an inner fire that, when mindfully tended, can sustain us through life’s ebbs and flows. Yet life often places us in circumstances that make it easy to forget, overlook, or even hide this fire. We may first notice its absence when we feel lost or disconnected from our zest for life. Meaningful interactions, however, can offer invitations to rediscover and rekindle that fire. Bowen’s therapeutic approach is multi-theoretical, drawing from evidence-based therapies such as CBT, psychodynamic, and narrative therapies. Together, these approaches provide both breadth and depth, inviting students to become more acquainted with the thinker behind their thoughts and the doer behind their actions.

About the Staff Member

Bowen Shaner earned his doctorate in clinical psychology in 2025 and has ten years of experience providing psychotherapy to college-aged individuals. He recognizes that well-being involves carefully considering and understanding the mosaic of one’s life experiences, not only to better understand how one came to be, but also to consider where one may desire to go.

In his spare time, Bowen can be found taking in the city of Los Angeles and, at night, having spirited conversations with his three cats about movies, shows, and music.
