Clinical Interests
Keylan Cortés believes in creating a warm, authentic, and collaborative therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout the counseling process. She approaches therapy with curiosity, recognizing that each client is the expert in their own lives and lived experiences. Keylan takes a holistic approach to counseling while incorporating evidence-based interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) skills, to support clients in developing insight, building effective coping strategies, and working toward meaningful goals. As a person of color, she values the opportunity to work with and support students from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Her clinical areas of interest include grief and loss, imposter syndrome, immigration and the experiences associated with navigating cultural and familial identities, and major life transitions. She recognizes the importance of creating a space where clients can explore their identities and experiences without judgment and believes that advocacy is an important part of the therapeutic process.
About the Staff Member
Keylan Cortés is a proud Los Angeles native, who earned her Bachelor's degree from Knox College in anthropology and sociology. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in counseling, with Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) eligibility at LMU. Keylan’s areas of interest strive from her continuous volunteer work in non-profit organizations in the L.A. area including grief support centers and child advocacy centers. Outside of the office, Keylan enjoys spending time with her niece, dance workout classes, Starbucks pink drinks and rewatching her favorite TV series.
