Clinical Interests and Specialty Areas:

As a person of color and a Spanish speaker, Dr. Viv has examined her own racial identity, which impacts her work as a therapist and her desire to help others from multiracial backgrounds and ethnicities. Dr. Viv provides evidence-based treatments with a particular focus on CBT, DBT and brief psychodynamic therapy to treat mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, trauma and grief.  Dr. Viv appreciates taking a holistic, individualistic and somatic approach to mental wellness that includes healthier lifestyle habits and behavioral goals, which ensures clients will experience beneficial results that expand beyond traditional talk therapy. Dr. Viv loves to incorporate walk therapy, as well as blue and green spaces into her work with students.

About the Staff Member:

Dr. Viv received her undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University and went on to receive a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago.  Dr. Viv appreciates the Jesuit education for its emphasis on developing the whole person, social justice, and being extraordinary in service to others. Dr. Viv has over 20 years of clinical experience and of formally being someone’s therapist in higher education, hospital and private practice settings. Dr. Viv’s passions and interests include spending time with her 16-year-old daughter, going to Disneyland, roller-skating, traveling, soccer, surfing, and attending live music concerts.
