International students enrich and enliven our campus with their diversity, collective experiences and varied perspectives. Through the administration of a number of programs and services, International Students & Scholars strives to promote mutual understanding and cross-cultural exchange among international and local students.
International orientation consists of activities and sessions led by student leaders and LMU staff. The sessions cover topics about immigration, cultural transitions, employment, health insurance, and academics. In addition, students will get the chance develop friendships with international students, learn about important resources for the international students community, connect with OISS staff and Orientation Leaders, and play games to win various prizes each night!
In 2000, Loyola Marymount University dedicated one of its houses on Loyola Boulevard to the International Student Community to be used for housing as well as programs and events. The Global House provides students of different nationalities and diverse cultures the opportunity to live and learn together in a community of mutual respect, understanding and international friendship.
The House consists of seven undergraduate students, international or domestic, with an interest in internationalizing the LMU community. Throughout the year, the House hosts various events and activities geared towards celebrating cultures and regions of the world. Those programs are planned by the residents.
About the Global House
Every year, the Global House becomes home to 7 students (all gender). The House is conveniently located on 8000 Loyola Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045. It contains 3 shared bedrooms and one single room. There are 2 bathrooms, 2 living areas, a kitchen, a patio, a backyard and a front yard.
Global House Requirements
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student at LMU
- Maintain a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
- No active judicial record
- Full participation in Global House activities
- Ideal candidate will have a strong international awareness and openness to diverse cultures
International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative by the U.S. Departments of State and Education to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange. The Office for International Students and Scholars has celebrated IEW at LMU since 2000 and hosts various events during the third week in November. Our office collaborates with academic and university departments, student organizations, and on-campus groups to in order to celebrate and promote international education at LMU.
OISS hosts International Graduation Brunch the day before Commencement Weekend to celebrate our graduating international students. Faculty, staff, family, and friends are welcome to join in celebrating our international graduates and their outstanding accomplishments.
OISS hosts a number of webinars throughout the academic year about topics such as OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, Post-Graduate Visa Options, etc. International students have the opportunity to learn about their work and visa options and have their questions answered by advisors.
