Zarin Tejani, MD
Medical Director, Physician
Zarin Tejani brings nearly 15 years of clinical experience in outpatient and inpatient health care for young adults and children. She completed her B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also played club water polo and tutored students. She then taught for two years as a Teach For America corps member, after which she earned an M.D. at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She completed her residency and served an additional year as a chief resident with the UCLA Pediatrics Residency Program, she also completed a fellowship in primary care psychiatry. Dr. Tejani is passionate about health equity and social justice and believes in caring for the whole person to promote resilience, healing, and holistic wellness. A Southern California native from Long Beach and a current playa visita resident. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, swimming, surfing, and reading.
Katie Arce, MPH, MSN, FNP-BC, CDE
Director of Student Health Services, Family Nurse Practitioner
Katharine Arce joined the LMU Student Health Services team as the Director in 2004. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare. She holds a Masters Degree in both Nursing and Public Health and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. In addition, Ms. Arce is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health and Human Sciences, Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Her professional interests include patient education, empowerment, advocacy and preventive medicine. She is married and lives in Westchester with her husband and several adopted Weimaraners.
Joseph Gabriel, MPH
Associate Director
Joseph Gabriel is a graduate of Whittier College with a BS in Biology-Health Science. He obtained his Masters in Public Health from Texas Tech University School of Biomedical Science. He will be assisting with meeting and maintaining AAAHC accreditation standards. Participation in assessment, research, and data management for SHS. He enjoys spending time at the beach with his three dogs and family.
Jayne Mas, NP, MSN
Assistant Director, Nurse Practitioner
Jayne Mas has been with LMU since 1997. She holds bachelors degrees in zoology and in nursing. Her graduate work was completed at the University of San Diego. She completed the California AIDS Ride and has volunteered on the medical crew. Jayne has been recognized by the campus community for her outstanding service and commitment to quality.
Yashica Warren, FNP-C
Family Nurse Practitioner
Yashica Warren is a Family Nurse Practitioner. She obtained her master’s degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult/Gerontology from California State University-Dominguez Hills, and her post-masters degree in Family Nurse Practitioner from Charles R. Drew University. Originally, from Michigan, Yashica enjoys traveling with family and friends.
Jenna Sissleman, RN
Clinical Nurse Supervisor
Jenna Sissleman joined Student Health Services in September of 2022. She earned her BA degree from the University of Massachusetts and received her RN degree from El Camino College in Los Angeles. Jenna started her nursing career at UCLA Medical Center on the liver transplant floor. Jenna’s career includes launching her own apparel company. Jenna enjoys the beach, walking, reading and has lived all over the country she has a special affinity for Florence, Italy.
Katharine Baldwin, RN
Registered Nurse
Katharine Baldwin joined Student Health Services in August of 2023. She earned her BA degree from The University of South Carolina and received her RN degree from Carolinas College of Health Sciences. Katharine began her nursing career at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC as an orthopedic trauma nurse, later transitioning to skilled rehabilitation nursing in Seattle, WA. Katharine enjoys reading, hiking, swimming, and baking and absolutely loves living in sunny southern California.
Stephanie Ortiz
Senior Administrative Health Coordinator
Stephanie Ortiz earned her bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach in Health Science. She began her healthcare administrative career as a credentialing specialist. Born and raised in Southern California (Long Beach/Carson). Stephanie participates in multiple organizations that encourage outdoor involvement from the Latinx community. Her favorite hobbies include hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, and playing the piano.
Carolyn Jackson
Medical Assistant
Carolyn Jackson joined the Student Health Center Team in May of 2009. Carolyn studied at Bryman College where she was trained to become a Certified Medical Assistant / Limited X-Ray Technician. Carolyn worked in the Health Center of United Airlines before transiting to LMU. Carolyn has worked as a Medical Assistant for the past 12 years. Carolyn holds an A.A in Business Management/Health Care. Carolyn is a native to Los Angeles, a mother of 6 children, and enjoys time at home with the family.
Maria Marcelo
Medical Assistant
Maria Marcelo is SHS newest medical assistant. Maria has more than 15 years of experience in health care. She comes from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which is a Los Angeles-based global nonprofit provider, where she worked for 6 years. Maria is a kind and friendly mother of five which makes for a great addition to LMU Student Health Services. In her free time she loves to makes stunning mosaic art from crystals.
Paulina Zacarias-Mejia
Medical Assistant
Paulina Zacarias-Mejia Joined SHS in the spring of 2024. With over 5 years of experience in the medical field, Paulina has worked for Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Providence Little Company of Mary. A Los Angeles native, Paulina enjoys cooking, reading, and spening time with family.
