Katie Arce, MPH, MSN, FNP-BC, CDE
Director of Student Health Services, Family Nurse Practitioner
Katharine Arce joined the LMU Student Health Services team as the Director in 2004. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare. She holds a Masters Degree in both Nursing and Public Health and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. In addition, Ms. Arce is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health and Human Sciences, Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Her professional interests include patient education, empowerment, advocacy and preventive medicine. She is married and lives in Westchester with her husband and several adopted Weimaraners.
Daniel Hyslop, MD, MFA
Medical Director, Physician
Daniel Hyslop did his undergraduate work at University of Nebraska in Lincoln Nebraska. He attended medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and did residency training in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University. Having completed an MFA in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University in 2001, he is now writing and someday hopes to direct. He is married and has two children. He enjoys the outdoors, photography and ultimate frisbee. His devotion to LMU began in 1988 but his heart will always belong to the Cornhuskers.
Joseph Gabriel, MPH
Joseph Gabriel is a graduate of Whittier College with a BS in Biology-Health Science. He obtained his Masters in Public Health from Texas Tech University School of Biomedical Science. He will be assisting with meeting and maintaining AAAHC accreditation standards. Participation in assessment, research, and data management for SHS. He enjoys spending time at the beach with his three dogs and family.
Jayne Mas, NP, MSN
Assistant Director, Nurse Practitioner
Jayne Mas has been with LMU since 1997. She holds bachelors degrees in zoology and in nursing. Her graduate work was completed at the University of San Diego. She completed the California AIDS Ride and has volunteered on the medical crew. Jayne has been recognized by the campus community for her outstanding service and commitment to quality.
Cindy Nakasuji, CPNP
Cindy Nakasuji has been a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for over 10 years. She completed her undergraduate studies in animal physiology and neuroscience at UC San Diego. She received her bachelor and master degrees in nursing from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to working as a nurse practitioner, she was a RN in infectious disease. Cindy is married with two children and enjoys cooking, crafting, and spending time with family.
Rosie Medina, RN
Rosie Medina joined Student Health Services in 2021. She began working for the university in the COVID vaccination clinic. She has been a nurse for 15 years working in Pediatrics. Her career started at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and then transferred to LAC USC Medical Center working in the Pediatric Medical Surgical floor. She is native to California and resides currently in Long Beach. Her pastimes are walking on the beach, movies, and cooking.
Cassandra Peca, RN
Cassandra Peca graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2006 with a major in International Business and a minor in Theater Arts. In 2021, she graduated from Pasadena City College with degrees in Registered Nursing, Humanities, and Natural Sciences. She will complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in January of 2023. Cassandra is working on a variety of television and film projects, including currently producing and starring in a feature film. She has also traveled to 18 countries and 43 states, is a blue belt in karate, and enjoys rock climbing and canyoneering.
Carolyn Jackson joined the Student Health Center Team in May of 2009. Carolyn studied at Bryman College where she was trained to become a Certified Medical Assistant / Limited X-Ray Technician. Carolyn worked in the Health Center of United Airlines before transiting to LMU. Carolyn has worked as a Medical Assistant for the past 12 years. Carolyn holds an A.A in Business Management/Health Care. Carolyn is a native to Los Angeles, a mother of 6 children, and enjoys time at home with the family.
Maria Marcelo is SHS newest medical assistant. Maria has more than 15 years of experience in health care. She comes from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which is a Los Angeles-based global nonprofit provider, where she worked for 6 years. Maria is a kind and friendly mother of five which makes for a great addition to LMU Student Health Services. In her free time she loves to makes stunning mosaic art from crystals.
Keith Chandler, RT
Keith Chandler joined the Student Health Center staff in January 1996 after completing his studies at Saul Heiser School of Radiology at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital. He is the Radiology Technologist at Student Health Services. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History at LMU. He has a son and currently resides in Westchester.
Administrative Assistant III
Martha Mares has been a member of the LMU Student Health Services team since 2007. She has worked in the medical field since graduating college and has extensive customer service experience. She enjoys traveling, is married, and has three sons and one grandchild.
