Loyola Marymount University and Student Health Services offer a number of support groups designed to support students and LMU community members coping with a variety mental health issues, addictions and more.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous

    Day:              Mondays
    Time:             8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

  • Al-Anon

    These meetings are open to LMU students, faculty, staff

, and family members of alcohol and substance abuse.

  • Chronic Illness Group


    The Chronic Illness Group (CIG) assists students with chronic illnesses, giving members an opportunity to learn from one another. Meeting are held every second and fourth Monday of each month.  The group is for LMU students who need resources, peer support, education and social experiences with peers who are experiencing similar circumstances.

  • Guided Meditation

    Guided Meditation with Resident Minister, Lori Harrison-Reyes

    Meditation is known to help individuals to relax, become more mindful of themselves and their surroundings, and to recall information with ease. Bring your pillows, yoga mats, etc. and come rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.

  • Mental Health Groups

    Student Psychological Services, located directly above Student Health Services, offers free individual and group counseling (no insurance required). Groups deal with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, body-image issues, relationship issues, as well as LGBTQ issues. The groups offered differ based on the semester.

    Fall 2018 Meeting Schedule


    Monday: 8pm-9pm: Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous. Malone 455 (Dean’s Boardroom).

    • A student-led, 12-Step Fellowship for those whom may have had, or have had, a drinking or drug misuse problem. Narcotics Anonymous uses the traditional 12-step model that has been adapted for people with varied substance misuse  issues. Attendance is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking or drug misuse problem.

    Tuesday: 6:00-7pm: Women for Recovery: Journey to Emotional Sobriety (Women only). Leavey 5, Room 307.

    • A student-led, women-only group, focused on self-compassion and skills-building to cope with the uncomfortable feelings and expectations unique to women.

    Wednesday: 9pm-10pm: Eating Disorders Anonymous. Leavey 5, Room 307.

    • A student-led recovery group for all people who have struggled, or are struggling with, disordered eating and/or negative body image. Meetings are loosely based on the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step process.

    Thursday:12pm-1pm: Alanon. Leavey 5, Room 307.

    • Medical doctor-led meeting for those seeking support to help cope with someone else’s drinking or drug problem


    Thursday: 7:30pm-8:30pm: SMART Recovery. Leavey 5, Room 307.

    • Student led, science-based approach empowering people to achieve independence from alcohol or drug problems by, 1. Enhancing motivation. 2. Learning to cope with urges. 3. Managing life’s challenges in a more sensible and effective way. 4. Developing a more positive, balanced, and healthy lifestyle.

    4-5pm: Marijuana Moderation. Leavey 5, Room 307.

    • A confidential, clinician-led meeting based on the principles of harm reduction. This innovative, informative, and science-rich approach is open to any student who is seeking to cut back on the frequency or intensity of their marijuana use.
