I am Professor of Philosophy at LMU, where I teach Philosophical Inquiry, Philosophy and Film, Modern Philosophy II, and Metaphysics, among other courses. I am passionate about working with students, meeting them where they are, and supporting them on their personal journey.
Born and raised in Mexico City, I studied Philosophy in Pamplona, Spain. Then I obtained my PhD from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, where I also taught from 2008 to 2012. Before coming to LMU in 2019, I held full-time positions at different universities in Mexico, including Ibero, UNAM, and Universidad Michoacana.
The main focus of my work in Philosophy is the tradition known as "German idealism", particularly the philosophy of Schelling. I am the Chair of the North American Schelling Society in the United States. At the moment, I am working on a book project on the late Schelling and Aristotelian metaphysics and co-directing a Schelling translation project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
In my free time, I love cooking and watching good movies. I also enjoy spending time in nature and making new friends. This is my second year as Faculty in Residence and I am looking forward to a great year here in McCarthy.
