DSS Housing Accommodations
If you require any special housing accommodations because of a disability or a chronic physical condition, contact the office of Disability Support Services (DSS) at (310) 338-4216. DSS determines which requests will be accommodated through an independent evaluation process and communicates this information to the Student Housing Office.
All students requesting an accommodation will need to complete a housing application; they may complete the application with or without the assumption that they will receive their requested accommodation. Unfortunately, due to space limitations, the Student Housing Office cannot guarantee students who are approved for a housing accommodation by DSS will actually receive a housing assignment that meets that accommodation. The Student Housing Office makes every effort possible to provide for the housing accommodation but is limited by available spaces. It is advised that students submit their documentation to DSS by February 1, 2024 for priority consideration for Housing.
Student Housing will process DSS accommodations and contact the applicable students for confirmation of their intent to utilize their accommodation. Students will be able to decide to utilize their accommodation or proceed without the accommodation. Please Note: accommodations do not extend to roommates and while preferences for specific buildings will be collected they cannot be guaranteed. If a student confirms their accommodation, they will likely be pulled from their roommate group as DSS accommodations are assigned before the general room selection process begins.
Gender Inclusive Housing (GIH)
The LMU Student Housing Office is moving forward with our process of providing a safe, affirming, and inclusive community living option for students of the following identities and lived experiences:
- transgender students,
- gender queer students,
- non-binary students,
- student who are currently transitioning from one gender to another,
- students who do not identify with society's expectations of their assigned gender at birth,
- students who do not wish to be identified by any sex or gender identity,
- students who are in the process of discovering their gender identity,
- and allies, students who appreciate and respect people with the above identities and lived experiences who would prefer to live in community with students who identify in these ways.
By participating in GIH, students will be able to form roommate groups and select their housing based on their individual gender identities rather than by legal sex. Students who elect GIH in their housing application may be contacted by members of the student housing team to discuss the various housing room types and styles on campus. All identity information is considered private and will only be shared with staff who can assist students in identifying what housing spaces that may be affirming of their identities.
Study Abroad Students
If you are currently Studying Abroad during the Spring
If you are studying abroad during spring semester and want to live on campus for the next academic year, you should participate in the Housing Room Selection Process.
If you are unsure whether you will be Studying Abroad next Fall
If you would like to live on campus in the event that you do not study abroad in the fall , you should participate in the Housing Selection Process. The Student Housing Office acknowledges and supports the value of the study abroad experience and therefore will credit back the Housing Deposit for students who are later confirmed to be on an LMU or affiliated study abroad program. Students who later confirm a study aboad opportunity must initiate a housing cancellation by completing the Housing License Agreement Release Request form in the Student Housing Portal.
If you have been admitted to the Study Abroad Program for the Fall semester
Students studying abroad in Fall 2024 should not apply for on-campus housing.
If you are interested in living on-campus for the spring semester when you return, you can apply for spring housing through the Student Housing Portal in late October. Spring housing is not guaranteed, but in previous years the Student Housing Office has been able to accommodate all interested returning Study Abroad students. We will contact you in October via an email to your LION email account so that you may fill out your online housing application while you are abroad. We will then assign you to spring housing based on availability and the date that you submit the completed application materials.
