Fall 2024 Move In 

General Timeline

Please note: There will be no check-in timeslots available and no move-in permitted during New Student Convocation on Friday afternoon, August 23.

Early Arrivals 

Students who have been required to arrive early for special program participation or training should consult with their program for move-in date specifics and to ensure Student Housing has received the request. Once requests from campus partners have been processed and approved, information regarding Early Arrival instructions will be sent to students in early July. Students are encouraged to check their Lion Mail regularly for updates. Students will only be permitted to check-in as an Early Arrival if they have received a confirmation email from LMU Student Housing.

    • Founder's Pavilion
      • Note: New Transfer students and students assigned to McKay will check in at the McKay Courtyard.
    • Students arriving should plan to park in Lot H behind Del Rey North & South (see below for more information).
      • Note: New Transfer students and students assigned to McKay should plan to park in Lot A adjacent to Hannon Apartments.

    Date/Time

    • All First-Year students will be randomly assigned a check-in timeslot on Wed, Aug 21, or Thu, Aug 22.
    • First-year students can check in at their timeslot or any time after their timeslot, but not before.
    • Timeslots will be issued when assignments are posted.
      • Note: roommates sharing the same room will be given timeslots for the same day.

    OneCard

    • Staff from the OneCard Office will be present to distribute new student OneCards during housing check-in. Students must have their OneCard to check in for housing and should upload their photo here before August 18th to ensure that their card is ready and waiting for them when they arrive.
    • Failure to upload a photo in advance will require a visit to the OneCard Office in University Hall before proceeding to housing check-in.

    Orientation

    • Staff from the Orientation Programs office will be present to check students in for Orientation.

    Parking

    August 1 - 21:

    • Regular parking enforcement and regulations will apply. For parking permit and parking information, please check the Parking & Transportation page. When moving in, please make sure you are parked in a marked parking space and that you observe all parking signs and personnel. Parking in red zones, fire-lanes or in any unmarked area is strictly prohibited. 
      • This time frame is only available for pre-approved Early Arrivals only. See above for more information.

    August 21 - 22:

    • Students arriving should plan to park in Lot H behind Del Rey North & South.
      • Note: Students assigned to McKay will check in at the McKay Courtyard.
    • Lots R, W, G, and K (adjacent to Rosecrans, Whelan, McKay, and Palm North Halls) are strictly for 30-minute unloading only.
    • Once checked in & unloaded, all vehicles must move to Lot A next to (Hannon Apartments)

    August 23 - 25:

    • Follow parking instructions and signage around campus. Parking personnel will be around campus to guide traffic and manage parking lots.

    August 26th and onward:

    • Regular parking enforcement and regulations will apply. For parking permit and parking information, please check the Parking & Transportation page. When moving in, please make sure you are parked in a marked parking space and that you observe all parking signs and personnel. Parking in red zones, fire-lanes or in any unmarked area is strictly prohibited.

    *Personalized instructions will be available via the PreCheck-In form in the Student Housing Portal beginning in July.

    Date/Time

    • All students were provided a check-in timeslot when they received confirmation of a housing assignment.
    • Students can check-in at or any time after (during posted hours) but may not check-in before their assigned timeslot.
    • Please note: There will be no check-in timeslots and no move-in permitted during New Student Convocation on Friday afternoon, August 25.

    OneCard

    • Please make sure to have your OneCard when you check in.
    • If you have lost your OneCard, be sure to get a new one from the OneCards in University Hall prior to housing check-in.

    Parking

    August 1 - 20:

    August 21 - 22:

    • Traffic and parking on-campus will be restricted and limited for first-year student arrival and move-in. Follow the instructions of all parking personnel and posted signage.

    August 23 - 25:

    • Parking in Lots K (McKay), O (Leavey 6), and G (Palm North/South) will be limited to 30-minute unloading only.
    • Pull-Up onto the sidewalks for McCarthy, Rains, Leavey, and O'Malley Apartments will be permitted ONLY when parking personnel are present.

    August 26th and onward:

    • Regular parking enforcement and regulations will apply. For parking permit and parking information, please check the Parking & Transportation page.   • I am arriving after move-in weekend, when can I check-in? 

    • All students can check-in at their Area Office during our normal Area Office hours beginning Monday, August 28. If you are an incoming student, please make sure you pick up your OneCard at the OneCard office during their business hours.  

    OneCard Hours: 

    • Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm 
    • Expanded hours for Move-In Weekend TBA

    Is there a vaccination requirement? 

    • LMU no longer requires COVID-19 vaccinations for students, faculty, or staff. This change is aligned with guidance from public health authorities and applies to the original dose and subsequent boosters(s) (state and federal recommendations). 

    How do I change my check-in timeslot?  

    • There are a limited number of available slots for changes. Should you be interested in a change, please visit the Student Housing Portal and review the "PreCheck-In" form for any available check-in timeslots. 

    What is the last day to cancel my 2023-2024 Housing License Agreement? 

    • The last day to cancel the 2023-2024 Housing License Agreement is/was Tuesday, July 25, 2023. See more details of the Housing License Release Request Process  here  for cancellation requests after this date. 

    Do I need to select a timeslot to move in?   

    • Students are automatically assigned a random check-in timeslot. Students can review this timeslot by visiting the PreCheck-In form in the Student Housing Portal. 

    What is the On Campus Dining Plan for Fall 2023? 

    Can I mail packages to my housing unit? 

    • Students will be notified of their on-campus mailbox after housing assignments have been released. Please contact the  Distribution Center  for more information on shipping packages and picking up during move in. Student Housing does not provide mail or package handling. 

    What should I bring to campus? 

    • We have put together a list from LMU students and Student Housing that will hopefully make your move easier by helping you identify those items you need, those you can leave at home or those you can get when you go back to visit. Visit  this page for some tips. 

    Who should students contact with questions about on-campus housing?

    How do I connect the devices in my room to the internet? 

    • For questions about connecting to LMU networks, please visit the Information Technology Services website or contact the ITS Help Desk at 310-338-7777 or  helpdesk@lmu.edu 

    Does LMU offer shuttle service from LAX during move in week?

    • At this time Lion Express will not be operating during move in week, students can use ride share services for transportation to LMU. 

     

Important Expectations Regarding COVID-19

Student Housing and university policies may be revised for the fall 2023 academic year as COVID-19 conditions evolve. Information regarding these policies will be available through Student Housing communications and on this webpage. The university continues to practice appropriate measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
