Room Swaps vs Room Changes

Room Swaps are different than a Room Change in that a Room Swap involves two students moving directly into each others spaces (unlike a Room Change which involves one student moving from their current assignment to a vacancy).

Room Swap Process

This Room Swap tool can be found in the Student Housing Portal and provides students the opportunity to "post" their room as available to other students, and then to search for rooms that other students have already posted.

The tool consists of the following pages:

  • Select the Assignment you wish to swap out of
  • Indicate your Reason for wanting to Room Swap
  • Search Rooms available to swap in to
  • Submit Request to Swap Rooms

Once a student finds and agrees to a room swap with another student via the Room Swap process, a member of the Assignment Team will reach out to schedule or confirm your room swap.

Student may not physically swap rooms until they receive instructions and confirmation from a member of the Student Housing Office Assignments Team specifying their move date.

Room Swap Availability

Traditionally, the Room Swap tool is only availabe when the Student Housing Office is able to accept Room Change Requests. This standard period begins Week 3 of the Fall and Spring Semesters and ends two weeks prior to the last day of classes in the Fall and Spring semester. The Room Swap tool is not avaiable during the Summer terms.

When resources allow, the Student Housing Office may open the Room Swap tool at their discretion to provide students with additional opportunities to swap assignments with other students.

Students are only permitted to swap between spaces of the same student classification (i.e. First-Year students can only swap into room spaces for other First-Year students, a Sophomore cannot swap spaces with a Senior, etc.).
